MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus five years of professional engineering experience, one year of which must have been at the supervisory level or above.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
A master''s degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required general experience.
A Ph.D. in engineering will substitute for two years of the required general experience.
Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of required general experience.
NOTE:

If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. Directs an important segment of the engineering program of DOTD with extensive and diversified engineering requirements or directs a distinct engineering program that is more limited in scope, diversity or complexity.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Manager.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Administrative direction from a higher level engineering administrator or unclassified official.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct supervision over Engineer 6(s)DOTD comparable level jobs, however, based on a Memo of Understanding between Civil Service and DOTD may supervise Engineers(5) and (6) DOTD, based on the complexity and difficulty of the unit.
LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Transportation and Development.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Engineer 5 DOTD and Engineer 6 DOTD by the presence of subordinate professional engineering supervisors.
Differs from Engineer 8 DOTD by lack of responsibility for multiple and diverse sections, units, teams and/or groups; by a less complex scope of work; and/or by a smaller span of control.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Recommends facilities, personnel and funds required to execute programs directly related to and directed toward fulfillment of DOTD''s overall organizational objectives.
Independently directs distinct engineering programs that contain critical problems for which the solutions require major technological advances and open the way for extensive related development.
Makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative with important impact on extensive engineering activities.
Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with elected/public officials, key engineers and officials of other organizations, requiring skill in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues.
Exercises mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems, determining program objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities.
Provides testimony on DOTD''s behalf to state legislative and U. S. Congressional bodies and represents the department on committees and boards.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
